DEFENSE ! STAT TO SEPERATE GOOD v GREAT DEFENSIVE TEAMS

GREAT DEFENSE

Breaking down NCAA | NIT | CIT | CBI Games & Teams
Many numbers jumping out that may
seem ambiguous &/or obscure…
I'm convinced they are not

How do we really tell a team is a truly proficient Defensively?
MANY ways....yet here is one I/we may overlook

PREMISE: GENUINELY EFFECTIVE DEFENSIVE TEAMS...Systematically FORCE opponent(s) to score in ways & areas they do not prefer

2010-2011 Arizona Wildcats, for example, force teams' into 60% Two-Point Distribution, in other words, Arizona's opponents - for whatever reason, obtained three-fifths' of their points from standard, 2-point field goals.

Cats' #4 in the category - all 345 Division-I Teams

May seem patently obvious, yet an inordinate number of surging, Post-Season Teams rank quite high in this overlooked category, reside in Top-50 of this group.  Interestingly, some of these teams are renowned Defensive-oriented units; others were somewhat surprising.  Nonetheless, really thought this was was worth a deeper look at the Top-50 in this statistic.

D-I Teams average approximately HALF of their Offensive Points from 2-Pt FG's

Like most Data-Set Conclusions, this one has a few holes in it...
ONE VERY LARGE ONE:
THE #1 TEAM in FORCING TWO-POINT DISTRIBUTION?

DePAUL BLUE DEMONS (7-24)
DePaul lost all but ONE Big East Game
(1-18, including Conference Tourney)

Only assumption I can make here is that a Defense can get SO POROUS it probably comes Full-Circle; giving up Lay-In after Lay-In, after Dunk, ect.

DIGRESSION:
Blue Demons, w/our Oregon State Beavers, are members of an unenviable 'Club'; Schools w/storied history's, now working on years of futility that has spanned  a generation.  '
We' Oregon State Alumni like to think DePaul has a little more unforgivable (& slightly more pathetic) case, residing in midst of a consummate hot-bed of Hoops Talent.  NOW, running on 20-YEARS, this perverse, melancholic “Club” had a 3rd peripheral, on\off Team "drop-in" member...St John's.  Obviously, the Johnnies' took it upon themselves to permanently leave this morbid group....& back to just Two.  Not a reach to conclude that neither program will is likely to turn the corner in the next few years.

MORE ON THE WAY....JUST THOUGHT I'D PASS THIS ON.
