NCAA TOURNEY DAY-1 SELECTIONS

1-4 | "PAC-12" ATS Nite (2 Tms missed covers ½-pt: Cal | Ore.  Wzu only cover.... by 1-pt

NCAA Tournament | Rapid-Fire | Day-1:

9 OLD DOMINION MONARCHS 27-6 | 14-4 Conf (15-15 ATS)
8 BUTLER BULLDOGS 23-9 | 13-5 Conf (15-15 ATS)

Butler Bulldogs had tumultuous trip back to same NCAA Tourney they came 2-Pts from WINNING in 2009-2010
Not a stretch to conclude that Bulldogs are relieved to JUST GET BACK into Field of 68
Now, they must face a team w/SR|JR experience to match their own
BOTH TEAMS riding 9-Game Win Streaks

Contrarian Play:
Just really like Old Dominion's matchups here

ESPECIALLY the Monarchs decorated BIG MAN,
ODU 6-8 | 246 Sr FRANK HASSELL
vs
BTLR 6-8 | 6-8 | 230 MATT HOWARD

Hassell Stat-Sheet-Stuffer if ever one was
Nat'l Individual Stat-Leader in 11 of 16 Stat Key Areas
EXACTLY the same Categories that Howard strives in

HASSELL IS BIGGER - & PROBABLY BETTER

What I believe we can bank on here
Is ODU's Under-Rated Backcourt | 3-GUARD LINE-UP

VERSATILE TRIO:
ODU 6 5 | 200 Jr BAZEMORE
ODU 6-5 | 217 Sr FINNEY

ODU 6-1 Sr JAMES

w/Two 6-5 ODU Upperclassmen Swingmen Averaging Over 3/Assts Gm

All these factors make can & will all work to make
BUTLER's 6-3 | 215 Jr SHANE MACK
WORK EXCEEDINGLY HARD FOR EVERYTHING

ODU's Hassell neutralizing or OUT dueling Howard The Monarchs really couldn't ask for a more ideal matchup

The deal w/ODU is they are winning close games w/Great Frequency (6-2)
Butler is a far different team in 2010-11 than last year

S MACK shooting 40% on year
Mack's eFG is actually far below 50% also
Forcing up 72 more 3's this Year
w/% down nearly 'Six Points'
(From 38.7% down to 33.9% this year)

Butler's propensity for 3's plays into ODU's Strength....BIG-TIME
3's often arising from great O-Rebounding
ODU is not only the BEST D-I O-Reb Tm
They're also the #2 Tm in Least O-Reb Alwd

ODU #1 D-I, FEWEST REB ALWD (28 REB/GM)

Really think ODU's Hassell is the type of Load that Howard hasn't seen in Horizon enough this year
Monarchs Defense really keeps tms guessing
ODU Defensive Fingerprint / Listing / Description, "CIT" Scouting Report:
Sensational Defenders (119 Steals combined)
& Lockdown Defensive Specialist (Finney)

  • 'Inconclusive'
  • 'Maddening'
  • 'Unpredicably Frenzied'
ODU has beaten:
  • CLEMSON
  • XAVIER
  • RICHMOND
  • DAYTON
Really believe ODU Wins this gm w/their new-fangled 3-Guard Perimeter Defensive Scheme

2 UNIT

9 OLD DOMINION

_____________________

13 BELMONT BRUINS 30-4 | 19-1 Conf (7-4 ATS)
4 WISCONSIN BADGERS 23-8 | 13-5 (15-12 ATS)

More contrast here than perhaps any game we could find
Belmont RPI (61) is exceedingly deceptive
Bruins present so many unique scouting issues for Wisky
As good as Badgers Defense is
Wisconsin Struggles to score for long stretches
Belmont is wildly efficient in just about every area

Wisconsin's Guard Play is where Wisconsin could wear down the Bruins

WISCONSIN sports BEST Ast|T-Ov % D-I (1.825%)

BELMONT IS 'UNIQUE' (Rankings)
#1 SCORING MARGIN - ALL D-I TMS (+18.4)
#1 STEALS/GM (10)

(Tourney Team Ranks)
#1 THREE-POINT DISTRIBUTION (29%)
#1 BENCH MINUTES (47% Min Off Bench)
#2 D-EFFICIENCY
#2 THREE-POINT-% (40.8%)

Wisconsin is #1 FT% (82.8%)
Belmont doesn't put tms on line (20% FT/Pt % Alwd)

OF COURSE Belmont in A-Sun vs Big-Ten isn't comparable
I just like Belmont to win this outright

All-Day Conference I must attend tomorrow
(last chance - maintain 24 Month certification for cpm, blah, blah)
I simply couldn't find a way out of it....
SO I have large leans w/the following & the clock is running out

UTAH STATE

1 UNIT

Thanks, guys.
More PAC-10 Breakdowns tomorrow night.

JUST RETURNED FROM ONE "UGLY-DUCKLING" OF A GAME AT THE 'MATT' IN EUGENE
   WEBER STATE 59
   OREGON 68

Ducks survived the onslaught of Weber 3's (31 Attempts) and outscored WSU a staggering 23-5 at the Free Throw line to eventually pull away in an otherwise very tight game.
